Posterous - A Drop-Dead Simple Place to Post

If you are looking for a place on the web where you can create your own personal blog for free, check out Posterous.  I’ve been looking at several different systems that provide for free blogs and I believe that Posterous is a great place for someone to begin blogging.  The Posterous site makes it extremely easy to create posts - all you have to do is e-mail a message to post@posterous.com.  You don’t even have to create a login before you make your first post.  If you attach several images to the e-mail message, it will create a gallery with thumbnail images and allow for paging through each of the images.  Viewers of your post can also download a zip file that contains all of the images.  In addition to images, the system also supports video, audio, pdf, and document files.
Sites that you create can be either public or private and you can allow multiple people to post to your site.  I’ve used this to create a site for our Cub Scout den and gave all of the parents the ability to contribute to the site by sending e-mails.  This is a great way to allow a group to share pictures from an event and have them all grouped in one spot.  This feature also makes it great for families who want to share their digital lives.

The Posterous system also supports an autopost feature so that you can have your single post to Posterous automatically sent to Twitter, Facebook, You Tube, Tumblr, WordPress, and a host of other sites.  There is also an iPhone app that you can use to upload images and video from your device or your can use their website to create posts.  However, it’s pretty hard to make any other type of system easier to use than just sending an e-mail.
It’s free, so check it out at http://www.posterous.com.
